The Arms:
Quarterly, first and fourth, Gules, a chevron Ermine between two crescents in chief and a garb in base Or, all within a bordure invected of the last, a martlet Sable for difference; second and third, Or, a lion rampant Sable armed and langued Gules surmounted of a fess of the third charged with three mullets of the field all within a double tressure flory counterflory of the second.
The Crest:
An eagle‘s head erased Proper gorged with a ducal coronet Or.

Sir Walter Buchanan-Smith born 25 May 1879, was the eldest son of James George Smith in Rhu and his wife Christina Laura Buchanan daughter and co-heiress of Walter Buchanan of Shandon, M.P.
He assumed his mother‘s surname as an additional surname. George Smith was the fourth son of William Smith of Carbeth-Guthrie, Lord Provost of Glasgow, and his second wife Sarah Wallis.
William Smith, in turn, was the second son of Archibald Smith of Jordanhill.
