Alexander James Macdonald-Buchanan of Strathconon

Born: 21 April 1931. Deceased: 11 December 2017.

The Arms: 
Quarterly, first and fourth, Argent, a lion rampant Sable within a border engrailed Gules charged with eight roses Or (for Buchanan), second and third, Argent, a lion rampant doubled queued Sable on a chief Gules two swords salter points upwards Or (for Macdonald), overall at the centre point a crescent Argent.

The Crest: 
Above the Shield are placed two helmets befitting his degree, that on the dexter with a Mantling Sable doubled Argent, and on a Wreath of the Liveries is set for Crest two arms embowed habited Gules cuffed Argent the dexter arm charged of a crescent Argent the hands grasping an ear of barley stalked and bladed Proper, and in an Escrol over the same this Motto "CLARIOR HONC HONOS", and that on the sinister with a Mantling Sable doubled Argent, and on a Wreath of the Liveries is set for Crest a castle triple towered Sable charged in dexter fess with a crescent Argent on the centre tower a staff of the First flying therefrom to the dexter a banner Gules charged with a rose Or, and in an Escrol over the same Motto "MY HOPE IS CONSTANT IN THEE."

The Mottoes: 
Dexter (right-hand side from the holders perspective, ie. behind the shield) "CLARIOR HINC HONOS" for Buchanan and sinister (left-hand side ) “MY HOPE IS CONSTANT IN THEE” (for Macdonald).

From a Grant of Arms by Garter and Clarenceux Kings of Arms on 8 May 1939 to Major Sir Reginald Narcissus Macdonald-Buchanan, Knight Commander of the Royal Victorian Order, Member of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire, Holder of the Military Cross.
